Highlights of a Section 125 Plan*

What is a Section 125 Plan?

  • Permits employees to choose from at least one taxable benefit
  • Employees who elect to participate contribute a portion of their gross earnings each pay period to cover the cost of the benefits.

What are section 125 plan deductions?

  • Contributions are withheld on a pretax basis, lowering taxable income
  • EMPLOYEE TAX SAVINGS: Employees pay less in federal income tax and Medicare and Social Security taxes.
  • EMPLOYER TAX SAVINGS: Pretax deductions also reduce the employer portion of Federal Insurance Contribution Act (FICA)taxes and the amount businesses owe in federal unemployment tax.
